Yeah those were a ridiculously good deal. I wish I had bought one, but I don’t think they were around at that price when I bought the ReadyNAS.

The current generation Microservers aren’t quite as cost effective, starting at ~£370, and even that old Turion model is still around £160. From-scratch seems to be more cost-effective this time around (somewhat unfortunately, as the Microservers are nice, well integrated units).

It was £138 after £50 cash back, with no drives. With a BIOS update, you can make the 4 drive bays hot swappable and put the OS drive in the optical bay. The AMD Turion II Neo isn’t quite as fast as the Intel Celeron G1820, though, and I haven’t done anything intensive on it. The fan is a bit noisy too.
